The famous kiosk
The Zócalo is Acapulco’s old town square or central plaza. Although once an important part of Acapulco city life, today the Zócalo would be best described as a quiet little park with some nice stone benches, fountains, a large stone gazebo, and the great Acapulco Catholic Cathedral.
What’s in the Zócalo 2022?
The Zócalo also has several cafes and restaurants, a few shops, two low-budget hotels, and an ice cream parlor.
Many residents come here to relax, read a newspaper or book, and people watch. This is also the main center to make your shoes shine.
If your body survives the challenges of Acapulco’s hectic nightlife, take it to the Zócalo to rest. Feed the pigeons, just like they do in the park. Just behind the cathedral you will find the oldest neighborhoods in Acapulco where wealthy merchants built their homes.
There are also some jewelry and other shops nearby and one can easily walk from the Zocalo to other tourist attractions – the traditional Acapulco. El Parazol Market, the Malecón, the divers and the Marina. Several traditional Mexican restaurants and a good selection of budget hotels are within a few blocks.
If you are short on time, you can visit and enjoy the Zócalo in just a few minutes, if necessary.
