¿What are the best beaches in Acapulco?

Acapulco has some of the best beaches in Mexico, perhaps some of the best in the world. From Pie de la Cuesta to Caleta, the Golden Zone, and Puerto Marques and Diamante, there are dozens of great beaches to choose from, each with a distinct personality.

With the exception of peripheral beaches to the west and east of the city (such as the lower Revolcadero), Acapulco also offers great surfing. But it is always the right place to sunbathe, rest, play on the beach, ride a jet ski, eat, drink, swim, sail and fish.

¿What are the most beautiful beaches in Acapulco?

Beach lovers will be delighted with the variety of Acapulco beaches that are perfect for all kinds of water sports and beach games.

The most popular beaches are in El Dorado or the Golden Zone, where you will find Playa Icacos and Playa Condensa, which offers excellent swimming and beachside services.

Other urban beaches include Playa Caleta and Caletilla, where you’ll find snorkeling around Isla de la Roqueta and surfers will love Playa Revolcadero due to the constant waves breaking on the beach.

When you are looking for a more secluded beach experience then you should try Playa Pie de la Cuesta to the north or you can travel south to Playa Barra Vieja.

The Bay of Puerto Marques located in the Diamante or Diamante Zone is home to perfect conditions for swimming, stand up paddle boarding and water skiing at Playa Pichilingue.

One of the most secluded beaches in Acapulco for beachgoers looking for plenty of space to lounge in a relaxed atmosphere is Barra Vieja Beach.

Located 50 km southeast of Acapulco, Barra Vieja Beach is situated near Laguna Tres Palos with several miles of nice sand along the Pacific Ocean coastline and is accessed from Carretera Barra Vieja off Highway 200.

Barra Vieja beach has a slightly gray sand color that is ideal for relaxing in a hammock or under an umbrella. There is plenty of space on Barra Vieja beach for beach games and water sports activities such as stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kite surfing, but the rip current is often strong, making swimming difficult. Other activities at Barra Vieja beach include horseback riding, as well as ATV rides along the shoreline and sand dunes.

Beaches near Acapulco

The beaches near Acapulco are usually very crowded, especially during the high season. The more remote locations do not attract large crowds or vendors on the beach.

Caleta Beach

Once the most popular beach in Acapulco, Playa Caleta is located in the “old” part of town. For swimming it is still one of the best in Acapulco, making it popular for families with children (read the caveat above, though). You will usually be contacted by a constant stream of providers.

Icacos Beach

playa-icacos-acapulco

Located in front of the La Palapa hotel, Playa Icacos is one of the favorite beaches for vacationers and spring lovers. Parasailing and waverunners are available in both Icacos and Condesa Beach.

Condesa Beach

playa-la-condesa-acapulco

Located in the center of Acapulco Bay, Condesa Beach is another popular beach for tourists and locals. Consequently, it is also a favorite spot for a variety of vendors who visit every 5 minutes.

Puerto Marqués Beach

Puerto-Marquez-de-Acapulco

Puerto Marques is located along the route to the airport and is a 15-20 minute bus ride from the main avenue. The waves are usually quite calm here. It is a good beach to take photos.

Revolcadero Beach

playa-revolcadero-acapulco

Located next to the Princess hotel near the airport, Playa Revolcadero is a beautiful and relatively private beach. Unless you’re staying on Princess, it’s a pretty long bus ride. But if you want to relax on a more exclusive beach, this is your best option. Eat in the cabins for lunch.

Pie de la Cuesta Beach

Plan to go here for the day and stay for sunset. It’s another longer (but worth the effort) journey, this time heading west. The waves can be huge here, so swimming is generally not recommended. There are some good seafood restaurants nearby, and it’s a nice escape from the busier beaches along the strip. There is also a lagoon for water skiing.

Bonfil Beach

playa-bonfin-acapulco

The best waves to surf (or so I’m told, let me know if there’s a better spot). You can also swim here, but the waves are quite high. La Bonfil is located between Puerto Marques and Revolcadero beach, so you have to make a little trip to get there. The beach itself is fairly quiet and doesn’t have the usual horde of vendors.

Hornos Beach

playas-hornos

Closer to the city center, Hornos beach has calmer waves and is a popular beach for the local population.

Gay Beach

playa-gay

This is actually part of Condesa beach and is located between Beto’s restaurant (under the Bungy jump) and the Condesa hotel. Visit the nearby palapas.
